Guest Speaker Tomorrow - Print out Letter Below

PLEASE READ ENTIRE BLOG POST - THANK YOU

Hi Everyone,

Please print/read and review with your parent or guardian regarding tomorrow's presentation:

Dear Families,

Guest speakers from Teen Esteem will be presenting a portion of “Healthy Choices” to the Medical Occupations ROP classes.  The presentation will focus on the following topics: Healthy relationships with boyfriends, girlfriends and school friends, as well as healthy family relationships, while incorporating anti-bullying strategies for students to employ at school.

Teen Esteem has been a partner with Granada High School for many years. Their presentation is highly effective in engaging students to think critically about the choices they make.  Consistent and open communication between students, parents, faculty, coaches, medical professionals and the entire community is the best way to build healthy relationships based on respect.  Teen Esteem provides an interactive presentation with students addressing drugs, alcohol, prescription drug abuse and healthy relationships.  We ask that you use this experience as teachable moment with your children to continue the discussions.  Here are suggested conversation topics to guide you in these discussions:

Please ask your student about the presentation,

·         Was the Teen Esteem presentation relevant to your life today and why?

·         What was the best part?

·         Was there anything that you disagreed with?

·         Were your beliefs about the topics discussed altered at all?

·         After hearing the presentation, will you think more about your

o    goals,

o    current relationships or

o    seek to change any of your behaviors?

You can find information and links to resources on Teen Esteem’s website www.teenesteem.com.

Since 1994, Teen Esteem has been providing adolescents and their families the opportunity to discuss healthy choices and tools to achieve one's goals and dreams.  This is not always easy due to the myriad of pressures students are faced with today.  In addition, the consequences for engaging in risky behavior are much more serious than ever.

Teen Esteem is a local non-profit that offers this supplemental presentation during 9th grade health class.  If you wish to receive more information:

-       Sign up for their quarterly newsletter for parenting resources and learn more about Teen Esteem on their website at Teen Esteem E-Newsletter.

Thank you!
