Hello Everyone!
Welcome to a new week, full of exciting new things to learn in Medical Occupations.
By the way, it's okay to try the first lesson on Keenan Safe Schools on Ergonomics. If it is not working, let me know tomorrow.
Homework:
We start working on the integumentary system tomorrow. Please know, when I call on you, what the A, B, C, D (and E) is of Melanoma. Have this in your notes on the this system in your binder. Start a new page of notes. (Look up online - "the abc's of melanoma") Check this out -
http://www.drosman.com/abcds-melanoma.htm Feel free to print this out and 3-hole punch for your classroom binder.
Write down, in your APMA section of your binder, the following:
HIPAA - The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Definition:
A U.S. law designed to provide privacy standards to protect patients' medical records and other health information provided to health plans, doctors, hospitals and other health care providers. Developed by the Department of Health and Human Services, these new standards provide patients with access to their medical records and more control over how their personal health information is used and disclosed. They represent a uniform, federal floor of privacy protections for consumers across the country. State laws providing additional protections to consumers are not affected by this new rule. HIPAA took effect on April 14, 2003.
Please ask parents to call me in the classroom tomorrow, or leave a message tonight regarding a parent-teacher meeting if they were unable to come to Back to School Night. Ask if they can come on Wednesday at 3:30 or at 4:00 - Thank you!!!
Assignment due October 3rd: (Please print this out and put it in your binder)
Go to: http://www.scholarshipexperts.com/college-life/college-scholarship-checklist.jsp
Copy and print out the page/checklist on the website above. Make and keep an appointment with your career
center specialist and/or counselor at your school before September 28th.
Review everything you need to accomplish, make a NEW checklist based on the
items on the checklist that are specific to your plans for programs and/or
colleges. Type this up and turn it in to me. This will go in your portfolio!
Keep a copy in your classroom binder so you can keep up with your plan, review
with your family, and get help when you need it. I suggest making quarterly
appointments with your counselor to be sure you are on track. Why not make
these appointments in advance? Hmmmm....remember you are learning to
"Anticipate the Need".
They are expecting your call or visit to make an appointment in advance. "Drop in's" don't always work!
Review the video on handwashing. Copy/paste the URL into your browser, without spaces. Put the whole URL in, in one continuous line. (This is the one from class today). Do you have a favorite that really shows someone doing a great job washing their hands? For health care workers???

Take care and have a great evening.
